Wordless Wednesday

That's the first place we lived when my little family landed here on the North Coast in July of 2001. One of the best features of this spot was the very old, giant palm tree, located just outside my older daughter's bedroom window. A gorgeous specimen... that was part of life on South Harbor Drive for countless decades. Until a wind storm this January, when the top snapped clean-off. We haven't lived in this house for almost seven years, but I just had to document this magnificent tree's demise.

The Perfect Day

Russian Gulch ~November 14th, 2009

Lots has happened. The man I love lost his dad just about six months ago. A power-packed loss.
Youngest child is about to graduate. By the skin of her teeth. This kid has turned me inside- out and managed to crush my heart a few times. I guess the up side is I am better prepared to embrace the empty nest thing when it happens.

Down to the Bone

Still alive and well and above ground. One reason I don't post much anymore is that I am camera-less. When I have one again, perhaps I'll be around more often. Or... if life suddenly becomes exciting and exotic--- whichever comes first. This photo of sheep skulls was taken by my older daughter, when the family visited Stillwater Cove Ranch last month.

Plant That Bell & Let It Ring

One of countless redwood trunks that wash up onto the beach during the winter months. The shot of the kids on top reveals it's massiveness. Now imagine it floating downriver, to the sea. One of the local ragamuffins personalized it this summer.

Mushball Sunday

Last night we went to see youngest daughter play guitar and sing songs in a local play. One of the songs she played was an (ancient) Chad and Jeremy song. Totally mushy. Mushy has it's place.

"A Summer Song" is posted below. And I changed the photo above to better reflect it's subject matter...

Mysterious girl. Thought I had it all figured out, this whole mommy thing. I've spent the last near-thirty years being one. Figured it would all just fall into place perfectly, the way it (mostly) went with my first two. This swan song of my somewhat prolific loins has shattered that silly fantasy. Providing me with some choice mirror images of stuff within that I thought I'd ditched long ago. It all comes back. Lesson learned.

Seashore Washed By the Suds and the Foam...

Taken on Tuesday. A glorious day to walk the beach. Everything makes perfect sense there. Sort of like a sweet version of St. Stephen. (Hollywood Palladium/8-6-71)

Slimy Rock on a Sunny Day

Speaking about sliminess, have you watched Z e i t g e i s t online, or heard about it? Just wondering. My older daughter brought it to my attention recently. If you've watched it, what did you think? My mind is still reeling. (That's nothing new) Anyway, don't be afraid--check it out.

Leaving this Town

For another one.

Back in a week.

When The Tourists Go Back Home

The town is ours again. Today was that way. No noisy hordes, no cell phone addicts, no wild hounds. Just the ocean and the sun and a couple of blissful ten-year olds. Now ready to take on the work week, and a trip to the
Emerald City.

They knew the other boy from school.

I like the patterns in the rock walls along the beach.

Here are a few photos from yesterday's protest. When we walked through the town with our signs, flags, and banners, I never stepped away from the marchers to snap a picture of us. I was caught up in the momentum of it all. I did see the local newspaper photographer there, so I will check out the paper on Thursday, and hopefully post a shot of the march-in-action. It felt mighty fine to join my neighbors in solidarity with the large-scale protests across the country.
