i drove down the coast yesterday, to meet-up with my older daughter. we had lunch together, after she finished diving.
one of her classes at the university this semester is scuba certification!
yesterday was the final dive, and she passed. the weather was sunny, with plenty of wind. luckily, they dove in a cove, but it was still quite challenging, with choppy water and jagged rocks all around. this young woman has always been fearless and confident. i knew it the moment i laid eyes on her. she had a look like "ok,cool... now what?!"
in more banal news, my beast, the volvo died last night, and i am home for half a day today. i just got the diagnosis. alternator AND battery, both shot. i could be sad, but am actually quite pleased that it did not decide to die on my road trip down highway one yesterday. that was a 100-mile trip. that's why i love my old car.
even when it breaks down, it's fair about it.

Sorry about your losing the battery and the alternator in the same round. The battery must have been fairly old or it would have survived; as you said, better now than alone on the highway, or having it not start some night when you really need it!
Your daughter sounds awesome, just like Mom!

Your daughter's beautiful, Annie. The courage--the cool--none of it surprises me. What a wonderful, happy day.
Sorry about the car, though. I'm on the bring of a new used one, and am trying to go green without going broke. Will see...

Love the last sentence, love your attitude about it. :-)
Seesm this battery thing is going around!
But Annie, you do slay me, I love your attitude. I'm not surprised your daughter is fearless...look at her Mom!

You WILL revive the Volvo, right? Right? You must revive the Volvo! Long live the Volvo! (if it were a chevy or a ford I'd suggest you ditch it -- no cool-factor for chevies or fords; Vovlo's got the cool-factor)
Is your daughter single? My BIL just got certified and is heading to Hawaii soon to see what he's made of. Gotta confess I admire his spirit. He's always finding more to crank out of life.
Sounds like your gal.
Sounds like you.
