tomorrow is an exciting day, and the beginning of a big weekend.
my best sister friend is flying to san francisco from seattle. we haven't had a visit in two years, and it's long overdue.
we met during the winter of 1976/77, when we were ski lift operators at squaw valley, lake tahoe. the friendship just gets stronger. we share the things that matter, and are so connected. we will walk and talk and eat a little dim sum and have lunch at my dad's and go see my college girl and take her to lunch. and we will laugh and get completely caught-up.
she is the one who told me about this fat flush diet that i began almost a month ago. i must admit that i am fairly stoked about it.
when i went for my annual exam on tuesday, i learned that i had dropped 19 pounds since i was there in mid-october. this includes thanksgiving-time. i cannot describe the elation of hearing a number that doesn't make you want to shriek. i have dealt with being overweight for 23 years. many years. my clothes are getting baggier. and my man has told me that i feel different now. yow.
my dear friend has been enjoying similar results, and her cholesterol has dropped dramatically, which was the impetus for her to try it. i feel much healthier already. the diet isn't easy, but it's very much about cleansing, so it feels excellent.lots of fresh vegetables(especially leafy greens), protein(tofu, tempeh, fish, chicken,or beef), and large amounts of unsweetened/diluted cranberry juice. and flax seed and flax oil. no breads. no dairy products. or sugar. or alcohol, and of course exercise such as walking, pilates, etc. only 1 cup of black coffee a day. no other caffeine. i have been drinking chammomile/peppermint tea by the teapot-full at work every day. it takes discipline. but the payoff came when i got on that scale the other day. it made me want to keep going. this is cool.
i'll be back around the shack after my weekend in my home-city.
peace.

What fun!!!
I hope you have an awesome weekend!!!
Hope you and your sister have a grand time together. It sounds like it will be a great trip.
Wonderful news about the diet. Except for the bread, butter, alcohol, cranberry juice and caffeine, it's how we eat :)
wow, annie... congrats on the diet thing! it sounded do-able at first, but too many things to cut out for me (could i trade in the chicken & beef for the caffine & alcohol???)
you are a strong woman.
Keep up the good work!!

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Nineteen pounds? I know that feeling when you begin to lose the weight it is empowering, and inspirational, yes.
The thought of feeling better, having clothes that fit loosely, yes it’s good medicine, and gives us something to look forward to instead of food.
Spending time with the people who we are fond of, people who we love and miss, that’s the good stuff that makes life something to look forward to too.
I hope you don’t mind my crashing your blog annie, I love your spirit.
Good for you! Have a fabulous time with sister-friend. I'll be envying you the dim sum!
wow and kudos about all of it! awhile ago you commented on my blog that you had posted the story of you and your love. i'd love to read it, finally--how do i find it?
it makes a good time great, and a great time even better, to realize how precious and special it all is while it's happening. yippee!
never mind! i found it and read it and i have big ol' goosebumps now!
:)
smiling with you annie, for the love of a good man is such a gift indeed; one that some of us must work at allowing ourselves to receive....
I can't wait to hear how the weekend went, I just know it was lovely!

I hope you had a great time!
*You got some links for the rest of us with the specifics of your diet?
My dear friend comes for a visit in less than a week. We will have good food and stay up late. The kids will LOVE having the extra company.
Can't get through without those types of friends! Especially this stressful time of year.
