One of countless redwood trunks that wash up onto the beach during the winter months. The shot of the kids on top reveals it's massiveness. Now imagine it floating downriver, to the sea. One of the local ragamuffins personalized it this summer.
We just drove back from southern Ca the other day, through the giant redwood groves. We were trying to imagine what it might have been like when there were hundreds of thousands of acres of old-growth stands like that. Oh what we have done in such a short time to trees that had stood for more than a thousand years.
