It's been a productive week here. On Tuesday, the man had his second interview at the mushroom farm. We are celebrating the fact he was hired for a full time, benefitted position, starting Monday. After more than two years of doing whatever we can to stay afloat financially, an actual break.
Lots of working outside here, planting. Breadfruit, more papayas and bananas, macadamias, ice cream bean, red sugar cane, Hawaiian corn plant (or dracaena), geranium, citronella plant... And we are getting some good rain this morning to keep it all happy out there.
We've been watching all manner of movies. Last night was "Gonzo", a documentary from 2008. Not sure how I missed it, since I have long professed my obsession with Hunter S. Thompson. Maybe we were watching too much CNN and MSNBC back then, being the news junkies we have long been. Anyway, great film with some wonderful footage and commentary and god damn it, he was truly something. Much more then the tired generalizations which are tediously tossed around. Here's a link to the trailer:
In entertainment news, Los Lobos is coming to the Big Island in November. In fact, they'll be less than 20 miles away. Not many of the bigger acts play in Hawaii anymore, due to rising fuel and travel costs. I've seen Los Lobos through the years, including at least once at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. This tour commemorates their forty years together. We'll be there!
